Electric Vehicle Charging Station Types
In today’s technology, electric cars can be charged in two different ways. These are AC-type charging units that use alternative current method and DC-type charging units that use direct current methods. All of the electric car models of today can be charged in both AC and DC charging stations.
AC Slow Charging: It charges between at 3-6 kW. The most common slow charging occures with 3.6 kW and it takes between 6-12 hours. Slow charging is a method that is used commonly at home at night. It can be found at workplaces and public places, however, it is less common to use outside of houses because of the long charging time.
AC Fast Charging: It is the charge that at 7 kW or 22kW and can take 1-2 hours or 4-6 hours depending on the car battery. It can be found at places such as parking places, supermarkets, and entertainment centers where vehicles can be parked for more than one hour.
DC Ultra Fast Charging: It is used to charge the vehicle which has a charge power level from 15kW to 350kW as fast as possible. Depending on the vehicle battery, it can be charged between 20 minutes and 1 hour. They are not that suitable for use at home since they use a large amount of power, they are more commonly found at highway service stations and public places.

The parking regulation which is prepared and updated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization entered into force after it was published in Official Gazette. According to the regulation; in applications for building permits for new buildings to be built with compulsory parking place 20 or more, at least %5 of the compulsory parkin places and not less than one, must be arranged in accordance with the relevant standards for electric vehicles including the charging unit.
Additionally, at least one of the charging units is to be installed in shopping malls larger than 30.000 m2 and in shopping malls that are larger than 70.000 m2, at least two of the charging units must have a fast charging capacity according to the related standards.
If you want to install the charging station in your private garage for personal use, it is not a requirement for you to apply for authorization. By selecting a charging unit that is suitable for your electrical infrastructure can support, installation can be completed.
In mass housing, if you want the charging station to be used in the common living area, then, you will have to request it on the agenda of the building management meeting. In order to have an approval decision, the majority of property owners, to give an example out of 6 property owners 4 votes are needed. After this, an installation can be performed after selecting the appropriate charging station that meets everyone’s demands.
The way of use of charging stations change according to their brand, places, and purposes. It can be used by making online payments through the internet or mobile applications. With mobile applications, a connection can be made to the device, at personal use points, payment can be completed with personal pre-loaded cards, or control can be made through the screen on the vehicle.
The charging station fee may change depending on the amount of kW used and the operating company or individual. The unit price is based on the kWh price that is determined by the distribution company and an operating fee may be added to it.
